Collecting is unquestionably one of the extremely popular hobbies where there are almost as different styles of collectibles with there being collectors! Practically anything can be a collectable item, but probably the most commonly collected objects are in fact toys. People of every age group seem to love toys, in particular those toys from around the time that they themselves were children.

Collecting toys, for several, is a lot more than just an enjoyable hobby, it is an investment. A lot from the older toys are extremely rare, particularly in the better conditions and/or using the original packaging. Naturally, the greater condition a toy is and whether or not it still gets the original packaging heavily influences its value.

Collectors spend a lot of money to get certain toys to add to their collections. In 1988 the antique dealer was held in the Perlman Toy Museum in Philadelphia and also over $5,000,000 in toys were sold in under one day!

Often toy collections are handed down from one generation to another. Sometimes the receiver with the toy collection loves and appreciates toys just as much as the one who passed them down, while other heirs will sale the toys at auction. Some with the largest toy collection in the world were amassed by 2 or more generations of collectors.

Although collecting vintage toys can be quite a great investment there are lots of people who aren't concerned a lot about the monetary value as is also the sentimental value. For many people collecting toys is often a way to hold on to their youth and keep a bit with the fun alive within their lives. As an example a friend of mine carries a huge number of action figures, many of which he has had since he would be a child. Now, even though he's long since "grown up", he is constantly add more action figures to his collection. He says he wouldn't consider selling any one of his older toys due to their sentimental value.

Action figures and Barbie Dolls are some of the very most collected kinds of toys.

The Barbie Doll was created in 1959 and was without bendable legs. An original 1959 Barbie Doll fetched nearly $26,000 at auction! While most Barbie Dolls wouldn't bring that much there are numerous of them that could sell for hundreds, or perhaps thousands of dollars. Over the years there are a lot of Barbie clothing and accessories which were produced. Quite often this clothing and many of the accessories can be worth a lot more than the Barbie Doll itself.

In 1964 executives of Hasbro thought we would emulate the fantastic success with the Barbie Doll with young boys. They introduced the GI Joe as the boys option to Barbie. For the first time boys began to "play" with dolls with a wide scale. It was OK though, the GI Joe was an action figure, not only a doll.

In recent decades a whole new type of toy hit the scene and it has now become a serious collectable. How many of you collect toys from restaurant kids meals including McDonalds Happy Meal? A full group of a particular series could bring double price and even more than was purchased them so you got burgers, fries plus a drink too! Once a series is discontinued it can become quite difficult to locate those missing from a collection, especially if you insist on "mint in bags". Serious collectors will often spend $5 to $10 for your one toy they must complete a set. Of course some in the older "happy meal" toys from the 70s and 80s are worth much a lot more than that.
