In modern North American society few people want to run by the butcher on a daily basis, stop into the bakery and then pick up their daily milk and cheese from the nearby grocer. That’s all a bit tedious for a society that works most of the day and then spends the rest of the day getting home to eat dinner. This is where the frozen food distribution industry comes in, because the act of freezing food helps to preserve it and make it more accessible, store longer and remain useable for people. Being able to freeze food makes daily trips to the grocer unnecessarily tedious, see wholesale supplies.

Supermarkets often have a good half of their store occupied by freezers of various sorts. Frozen french fries, frozen meals, frozen desserts, et cetera, there is a huge variety of frozen food being distributed throughout the market in this day and age. On top of that fresh meats can be purchased and frozen to be used again at a later date. It’s possible to go to the supermarket and buy enough stuff to last an easy week, possibly even two, and still eat comfortably and happily, because of the frozen food distribution industry.

Of course these foods are often less healthy than fresh foods, simply because to add to the preservation they typically contain a lot more salt than home prepared meals and foods. Salt helps preserve foods even when they aren’t frozen, so the two together helps keep goods for very long periods of time, allowing them to be stored for weeks before being used. The frozen food distribution industry is all about getting preserved food out to the supermarkets and that food lasting for long periods of time, so it wouldn’t do for them to go bad quickly, so all sorts of methods are used to keep the food.
