Camera 500D - Superior Than Expected
I own two Canon point and shoot cameras which take fantastic pictures. Having said that, this camera is in a complete other league. It is actually also rather an improvement from film DSL's from the 80's. I also purchased the EF-S 55 250 mm zoom lens with all the $[...] instant rebate. I discover myself employing that lens greater than the kit lens. Both take great images. I'm amazed how much I can crop and hold the picture sharp up to ISO 1600. I bought this camera in order that I could take fast images of my three grandkids.
The burst rate together with the built in flash is excellent and it can be genuinely fast with out the flash. I am amazed how a lot of images I'm taking. I use a Class four PNY 8GB HC memory card. It might deal with big fine JPEG Burst shots with no problems. I'm not positive how it would handle video or RAW plus JPEG. My friend features a $1500 EF lens which can be clearly sharper than the lenses I bought. Which will be by subsequent upgrade. Obtain it, you wont be disapointed.
Canon EOS 500D - Third Canon DSLR
I needed a smaller camera body for my kayak trip to Costa Rica as my D bodies are also large. The Camera 500D takes all of my lenses,which are fairly large and offers me significantly smaller package.I have taken about 100 shots so far simply to examine out the a variety of modes and so far so good. I've not been that impressed together with the picture excellent therefore far with many shot somewhat more than exposed. This was in comparison with my D20 and D40. I'll be within a significantly much better position to comment just after I return from from my trip.

Canon EOS 500D - Early Critique But So Far... This Piece Is Stunning!
This is my initial (D)SLR. And I've to qualify myself as one having NO photographic capabilities except to point the lens within the appropriate direction ;) Purchased Canon SX20 IS as I wanted a straightforward camera with nice zoom and movie mode but SX20 was a complete disaster. So, decided to upgrade to Canon EOS 500D depending on various suggestions. Have been reading and studying about photography and playing with this camera & kit lens for about a week now. So far I have been impressed using the handling on the camera and the image excellent. Images in fluorescent light are off, but at least I know that AWB is not easy. The menu sometimes is often a bit of a pain - like selecting sepia tone etc - you have to hit so many buttons.
Video looks superior on camera but lots of jerkiness/streaks when playing on PC - due to slightly older (2 years) computer + software. Converting these MOV files to VOB does not show any problem and plays smoothly. I think it's the auto exposure compensation (not flicker noise) that causes some changes in light though panning but I am not confident. Havent worked on it as well significantly.
