8-14-13 FINAL INFO EMAIL

Boys and girls, young and old, friendly and mysteriously angst-ridden: The time has come for your final download of information. And as always, its important (dumbass, you see the ALL CAPS in the subject - that means read this now). On Saturday August, your trusty leader, daddy, resident asshole (me) leaves the great city of NY to fly to the shithole known as Reno. On Monday August 19th I drive out to playa. For all practical purposes, assume that I am off the grid as of Monday morning. This means that if you need anything relating to camp, your best bet is to contact Jungle or Jim. Or grab your ass and pray (prayer is better with your hand on your ass). So, if you have last minute needs, questions, requests, etc you better get them to me ASAP. That means now.

Here are some final things that you should know:

Arrival on playa

when you arrive on playa, you should head to our camp. We are Kostume Kult, on the off chance that someone did not figure that out yet. We are located at 3:15 between Esplanade and Airstrip, which is between the 3:00 keyhole and 3:30. If you are not familiar with the map of BRC, please take a minute to check it out here: http://www.burningman.com/preparation/maps/13_maps/. The gate into BM is located at 6:00. The best way to reach us is to make a right when you come through the gate and drive on one of the back roads until 3:30. Make a left on 3:30 and then a right on Airstrip. We will be on the left hand side, midway down that block. There will be an access road into our camp just past the true reflections palace (a blue neon lit structure). Remember, once gates open there is no driving on the esplanade. In addition, there will be no way for vehicles to access out camp from the Esplanade. So come down Airstrip and turn into our camp.

EARLY ARRIVAL NOTE - Please make sure that you have a ticket and an early arrival pass for the gate. Will-call doesnt open until wednesday of early arrival week, so anyone who is coming before that must have a paper ticket with them. Please remember that early arrival is a privilege and we come early so that we can build the camp. If we all buckle down and contribute our time during early arrival week, we will all be free to play to our hearts content and explore during the burn. If you are coming early, you are coming to work with our camp and not to visit your friends, hang around, or help other people with their projects. We will have fun during build, but we need everyone to pitch in and do their share. Do not expect to be able to explore the city, find your friends/lovers or otherwise roam about until ALL of the build is complete. If this is not something you can live with, please give me back your Early Arrival pass ASAP and find something else to do that week. Really.

Parking, pods and setup

When you arrive in camp, STOP CAR AT BACK OF OUR CAMP, out of the way as much as possible. DO NOT pull in and drive around the camp without checking in and having DK or Jungle shw you where to go. SERIOUSLY. Especially RVs. The camp has Rebar, power lines, tie-downs, low wood bars, etc all over the place and it is hard to see. YOU WILL FUCK YOUR CAR AND OUR CAMP UP. And that would suck. If you arrive at night, and DK or Jungle are not around or awake, just park in the back and wait for morning, sleep in your car if you want. DO NOT try and get the car into the camp. If you have an RV, Make sure DK or jungle places you then gets you hooked up to the power grid. DO NOT PLUG YOURSELF IN. Do NOT try and drive through the camp on your own. Review the camp map and layout, and be familiar with it and where your RV/TENT/WHATEVER will be, but still, WAIT FOR DK OR JUNGLE TO PLACE YOU.

NYC Container

your stuff may already be at camp when you arrive, if you are arriving after the Wednesday of early arrival. If its not, one of our art cars or our truck can go to the container to help you get your shit back to our camp. Please be patient, things will happen as soon as they can. Your stuff will be retrieved, and you will be able to set yourself up for a great week.

MOOP and garbage bags

There are no maids in our camp. Please keep your POD and living area, and our entire camp, free of MOOP at all times. You are responsible for all of your own garbage. The garbage by the kitchen is NOT a communal garbage. Your food remnants from dinner are your own responsibility and you MUST take care of that in your own garbage. Make sure to bring a bunch of heavy duty contractor bags and when you drive off playa you are expected to take ALL of your garbage with you. If you are cheap and buy crappy garbage bags, you may be blessed with a mess of exploding garbage full of twice-used condoms (where did that brown streak come from?!?!) and rotting food in your car on the way out. We will patrol the camp and we will tell you to clean up your area if its a mess. Things laying around outside your tent are MOOP waiting to happen. NOTE: if you are getting a ride off playa, you are still responsible to take your own garbage out. Either find someone nice enough to take it for you or bring it along with whomever is giving you a ride. It really is not acceptable to just leave it around the camp. I may just put it on the container and send it back to NY and dump it open on your bed while you sleep. I know where you live.

General Car Requirements

Make a spare key or two or three. Lockouts on playa suck and are expensive. ALSO, everyone MUST leave a note on their windshield with their name and pod location so that we can find them if we need them to move their car.

First Crack

first crack and our official camp meeting takes place in the costume Kathedral right after dinner on Monday night. Everyone has to be there. You will be able to raid the costume boxes for some truly awesome shit. You will be happy. We will go over the basic camp procedure, introduce ourselves, make friends and have a fucking awesome time.

Leaving Playa

No one can leave playa without getting me to sign off on their personal space and pod. You have to find me. I will come look at your space. If its a mess, you dont leave until its clean. I dont care when your flight is. Please plan accordingly. NOTE: Please plan your ride out from playa in advance. Its really difficult when people are just waiting around expecting a ride. Especially if you have a lot of stuff to take with you, such as shade structures, etc. Please make sure that your ride is not leaving playa earlier than you promised. EVERY YEAR, people come to me and want to leave playa earlier than they promised. Reno seems inviting after so long in the dust. Bear in mind that many of the people staying until the bitter end on Tuesday are also the people who arrived on playa Monday morning of early arrival and built your camp. It is not OK to ask me to leave earlier. I dont care if thats your only ride - its your fault for not having a ride out on the proper date. If you are sick or dying, we can talk. If you just want a shower and pool party, well, join the club. Be a good citizen and live up to what you signed up for.

NOTE: The wiki has a list of early arrival and breakdown crew. Please check it and confirm that you are staying until the date your promised.
