RIDESHARE ETIQUETTE

1) Be good - Be good to your driver. Offer to drive if they want help and you are capable of it. Dont complain about space and the music. Dont fart in their car. Use common sense. Help them load there stuff. When you get to playa, be able to direct them to our camp and then unload as fast as you can so that they can move on.

2) Be on time - this is super key. People have lots to do, and you are getting a favor from them. Clearly communicate with them about the times (both driver and rider), and make sure to be there. On the other hand, be considerate if the driver is late. Its BM, shit happens, we are all on a tight schedule.

3) Baggage - Make sure that your driver/passenger knows exactly what you have or how much space is available. Cars out to BM are packed tight. Dont just show up with a bike, with no warning, and expect the driver to fit it in. Thats pretty rude.

4) Stops - if you are a rider, dont ask the driver to make stops for you so that you can shop in Reno. You should find out before hand what stops the driver is making, and see if you can go with them on their schedule. No one wants to be bothered making a food/bike/water stop AGAIN after they did all that. As above, clear communication is the key here.

5) MONEY - If you are getting a ride, expect to pay. Its expensive to rent a car. Gas is expensive. Cleaning the car is a bitch and a half. Do not wait to be asked, please offer. If you are going both ways with someone, its fair to pay your share of their total cost (if you are 1/4 of the people in the car, that is 1/4, etc). Take luggage and such into account with this, and any stops that you are asking the driver to make for you. Total cost means rental fee, gas, cleaning fee, etc. ask in advance how much that all is. If you are going one way with someone, you should still chip in. $50-$75 dollars is probably the minimum you should expect to pay for a one way trip to/from BM/Reno, but it can easily be $100 or a bit more. Do not try and be cheap on someone else's dime, that is called taking advantage.

6) Be smart, be safe - If you are riding with someone you don't know and you are not feeling safe, don't take the ride. You can always find another one in Reno somewhere. Its not worth the risk of getting killed or spending hours feeling really uncomfortable because your driver is drinking, is a creep, or whatever.

7) Have Fun, Be Fun - make friends, be a fun person. Everyone loves a fun person.

John Walter (Exactly) jwalter@truemirror.com 646-319-5524 Arriving in Reno at 1130 am Wednesday. Renting a full size car from Enterprise for about $550 plus insurance and gas, but i think there will be just one space open when you add all our stuff. i don't know what a fair share amount should be. maybe we can squish 3 total riders for 1/3 costs, but right now i'm assuming on just one rider in addition to me. Then, doing the usual running around Reno getting supplies...probably head out to playa around 3-4 the way it always goes!

Leaving BRC on Tuesday i think - late. the exodus is such a PITA its worth waiting.

Link and Eddie (isingtolearn@yahoo.com - 917-721-5247) need a ride to playa (one way only). We're arriving Reno Tues, and would like to do some shopping at Walmart Weds before heading out. We have 1 vehicle pass we are not using. We'll both have carry on and perhaps 1 bag each.
Mikaela and Bruce (mikaeladawnholmes@gmail.com or call 212-920-4591) are leaving from San Francisco on Wed the 20th and looking to share a ride to the Playa (preferably both ways, and we are flexible about an exit time, no later than Monday). We have a vehicle pass, and we are also open to sharing a rental to and from SF. We will have a few bags, and at least one bike.
Lianimal/Teagan and Gearoid/Gerhardt (lianaslair@gmail.com - 917-254-8848) we would like a ride!!! We arrive in reno in Tuesday night and would love to ride in with someone Wednesday. One of us is an excellent driver and we will have two bags each. I think we won't need to do any shopping and we are really wonderful car sharers :)

PriceLe$ Freedom (aka Leslie Friedman) is seeking an inbound and outbound ride to Playa from Reno and vice versa! 3KAway@gmail.com, or 818 324 1971. I arrive to Reno Saturday August 23rd around noon, planned to head out Sunday morning/anytime but could go Saturday night if that works. I will have luggage (forwent container but packing light, a couple small duffels and backpack, or "checked" size suitcase) and would LOVE to be able to pick up a bike at Walmart in Reno if there is a rack/room, to save on the expensive rentals : / I can offer to pick up essentials from the Walmart my ride may need (am also looking into buying a rack possibly or splitting one if others will use it?) in addition to the last few things I am getting then. Will need a returning ride to Reno at some point between Sunday and Monday night because my flight back to NY is early Tuesday morning. Anyone staying in a hotel in Reno Monday night I am also happy to split/share. I'd also be glad to help my ride mates set up their tents when we get there (I'm good at that : ) and anything else you may need. ALSO* packing CLEAN, no contraband.

I, Rebekah Nagy (Tickle Oracle Moonflower), am seeking an outbound ride from BRC to San Francisco after the final MOOP shifts sometime on Tuesday, 9/2, probably in the early afternoon or evening. If you have room and are only driving to Reno on Tuesday, I'm willing to change my flight, but my preference is to make it back to SF before my 9/4 flight at 11:55am if possible. I'll have two suitcases, both carry-on size, a tent at ~10 x 10 x 40" (packed dims), and a small backpack. Of course I'll help with ga$ and $nax. Thank you, friend!!!
